Discovering the history of your market hall through success, neglect and rejuvenation.

A calculated visit.

Pupils from Maesyrandir Primary School visited the Market Hall on Friday 6th March, the building becoming an ideal focus for curriculum topics (maths – perimeters and area) that they needed to cover this term. The pupils arrived with concise worksheets for a range of subject areas that they wanted to cover resulting in a very busy couple of hours for the pupils who were measuring the newly erected stalls, calculating areas using brick measurements for their projects. A second session for another group on the 11th March focussed on the history curriculum (Victorian embellishments) and again pupils produced some very impressive work.

Signed and sealed for 2115.

The final activity was developed with the school to support the literacy curriculum. Pupils were asked to write a letter to the children of Newtown 2115, which were then appropriately packaged and accompanied by a letter of explanation from the class tutor. The package was then walled up in one of the front pillars of the market hall on High Street.
